Traveling to Arizona

The view was more breathtaking than I could have imagined. No pictures could fully capture the beauty that I observed.

As I was starting this year, my chronic pain continued to wear me down and I noticed my depression continued to creep in. In the past, I would have just pushed through these struggles for a few more months, but this time I didn't have a lot to give. As someone who works with those living with disabilities, teaches dance and continues to study child life, my mind is always focused on something. And it leaves less time to rest.

After conversations with close friends and family, I decided to take a week off. I needed a change in scenery in order to fully rest. In the past, I would have taken a day off or two and stayed home. A friend from Diamonds offered to let me retreat at her home and spend time with her family. This was more than I could have asked for.

I should also add that God worked it out in His timing. I was able to take the days off from work. And it was week that I wouldn't be missing any events. My online course would also start after coming home. This meant I could leave my laptop home and turn off most notifications to take a break from my normal schedule. I highly recommend it.

So I packed my bags in March and traveled for a week in Arizona. I haven't laughed or smiled that much in months. I went on walks, did bible studies, ate delicious meals, took naps, read in the mornings, baked cinnamon rolls, saw the Grand Canyon, and went to a beautiful church service. God knew how much I needed this time to rest and recover as my health challenges continued to worsen.

I learned a lot from this trip, but my main takeaway is having that time to rest and refocus is essential for those who feel called to serve others. And I would add not to feel guilty either.

Rest is so undervalued yet never needed more in our fast turnaround culture. So happy you received time to rejuvenate.
