I was nervous stepping into the interview. My hands shaking, not just because of the tremors. I sat at my desk, waiting for the zoom meeting to start and mostly praying that I would able to answer the questions with confidence and clarity.
A few months ago, I shared about how I was applying to graduate school. The process involved researching universities in my area, , looking into programs that would still take acceptances for the fall, and figuring out finances. I did experience moments of tears as the disappointment still hit of not being able to enter into child life. This was my dream field, one that sparked an interest at nineteen to begin working with people with chronic illness and disabilities. I thought it was enough to put in the hard work. I didn't take into consideration that maybe my health wouldn't improve or that maybe God had other plans.
The application process for these schools took a lot of free time as I carefully and collectively read each step and gathered all of my information. Nothing though prepared me for what I considered to be the most difficult part, the interviews.
I first started out by researching potential questions and practicing what I might say. I also reached out to a close friend who already finished her education in this field... But, everyone's experiences are different, so most importantly I needed to remember to put my trust in Jesus.
But, the doubts are still often a silent and daily struggle. And I know that I'm not the only one.
What if I talked to quickly or didn't know how to process the questions? Did I even have enough knowledge to enter into this program? What if this is a mistake and I can't keep up with grad school?
I didn't what else to do, but pray and take a deep breath before joining the zoom meeting. The first interview went well. It felt more like a conversation. I shared part of my journey and what lead me to want to enter into this field. I kept it brief as I touched on the part of my health challenges. And how the fatigue and pain will affect what I'm able to take on as a student. The faculty member that interviewed me demonstrated a lot of care and understanding.
I soon received an acceptance to this school and then the other ones I applied to. After having a door close this year, God sure has been opening up all of these other oppportunites that I didn't expect. What a blessing to know that I just needed to wait for His timing. That may be the case for you as well this week. Don't forget that the Lord's plan is greater and sometimes you might see many doors close before one opens. It's worth it though.
Are you still curious to what program I will be entering into?
I plan to share more in the next blog post.
