A Trip to the Library

I needed a break, an escape from various stresses, so I went to the library.
I often find myself longing for a change in scenery. In fact in a more recent counseling session, my therapist encouraged me to find a space where I could take a break. I would prefer it being at the beach, but as you know, that's a little more challenging physically. I've come to realize that I can get overwhelmed easly when there is added stress and it increases my pain. And of course that's not good.
Most weeks I only leave my home because of work, dance, and church on Sundays. Although, on rare occasion, I will meet up with a friend for coffee. But, I never get coffee, only tea or a smoothie.
Last Sunday though, I was looking for a break in routine. So I packed a lunch to eat in my car and then spent the afternoon in the library. I found a comfortable spot, pulled out my laptop, and listened to some bluegrass music. I worked on various writing projects, started some guest articles, and continued on my applications for child life internships.
The afternoon flew by, but it felt refreshing to go out and avoid distractions and noise. I also found myself not focusing on my pain as much.
My favorite spot is sitting near a window. While it's on a busy street, I enjoy looking at the nature surrounding the buildings. It kind of makes up for not being able to be outside as often (due to allergies).
The only thing missing was a cup of herbal tea and maybe some dark chocolate.
If you could change one thing in your rountine this week, what would it be? Where would you go? Or do at home?
I know it's not always possible from week to week to add anything extra. And for those of us living with chronic illness, each week can be unpredictable. But, once in a while a spontaneous adventure is nice. Especially the ones that are solo (if you prefer the quiet).
